Chris Klein spent eight seasons with the Kansas City Wizards after being selected fourth overall in the 1998 MLS College Draft.
Klein scored 43 goals and 54 assists in 235 matches in all competitions for the Wizards which ranked him second all-time in club history with 97 combined goals and assists.
In 2001, the Missouri native scored 3 goals and 6 assists in the regular season.
Chris Klein’s primary royal blue jersey is long-sleeved. It is presumed to be issued but it does have some light signs of wear.
While I can’t dig up any photos of Klein in long sleeves in 2001, Klein was known to wear the long sleeve jerseys from time-to-time so it makes sense this would be issued to him.
The neatest aspect of #17’s shirt is the 9/11 memorial patch. These patches featured the Statue of Liberty superimposed over the American flag and were worn throughout the 2002 season.
At the end of the 2001 season, the patches were much larger than what was used in the 2002 season.
These blue primary shirts were worn for three seasons (2000, 2001, 2002).
These jerseys were the first foray into what would ultimately become the club’s signature look throughout the 2000’s — royal blue shirts at home and white shirts on the road — with the rainbow motif being completely abandoned by 2002.
