Matt Besler

  • Spent 12 seasons with SKC from 2009-2020

  • Matt served as club captain for each of his final seven seasons with Sporting Kansas City

  • He ranks third in club history with 294 appearances in MLS and also third in club history in total appearances in all competitions with 348

  • Won the 2013 MLS Cup with Sporting Kansas City

  • Also won the 2012, 2015 and 2017 US Open Cup titles with SKC

  • Besler was a five-time MLS All-Star (2011, 2013-2016)

  • He was named to the MLS Best XI in 2012 and 2013, and was also awarded the MLS Defender of the Year award in 2012

  • The defender also represented the USMNT, earning 47 caps as well as starting all four matches in the 2014 World Cup

  • He was named a Sporting Legend in 2025
