Matt Besler was selected eighth overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Kansas City Wizards.
Besler was born and raised in Kansas City before starring at Notre Dame in college ahead of his professional career.
The defender’s debut season in Major League Soccer saw him become a regular in Curt Onalfo and later Peter Vermes’ lineup, where he remained for the next decade.
Matt made 32 total appearances for the Wizards in 2009 including 28 in MLS, totaling over 2200 minutes in his first professional season.
The Kansas City native went on to become one of the most decorated players in club history with four trophies (one MLS Cup, three US Open Cups), one MLS Defender of the Year award, and two MLS Best XI selections alongside five selections as an MLS All-Star.
This shirt has some minor signs of wear and is a rare long-sleeved kit.
Besler typically wore short sleeves, but this one was likely worn April 5th, 2009 against the San Jose Earthquakes in a 2-0 victory.
The jersey is signed by Besler and has the MLS Authentics hologram on the back next to the numbers.
