Mo Johnston was with the Kansas City Wizards for six seasons that included an MLS Cup title in 2000.
The Scotsman appeared in 170 matches with the Wiz, scoring 32 goals and adding 31 assists. He was a three-time MLS All-Star and was named a Sporting Legend by the club in 2017.
Johnston helped the club to a Supporter’s Shield and MLS Cup double in 2000 while ushering the club and the fledgling league through its early growing years in America.
Mo wore this shirt during the 1999 season where he tallied 3 goals and 4 assists in 29 league games.
The shirt does have some signs of wear including a mud stain or mark on the front right below the club crest.
These white rainbow piped shirts had felt numbers and names on the 1999 iteration and featured only the MLS league patch on the sleeve.
One interesting quirk of this particular jersey is that the middle “N” in JOHNSTON is turned the opposite way of the “N” at the end of his name. Research has led me to find that the middle “N” orientation is the more common one used by the club.
With that in mind, the final photo above appears to be a match to this oddity on this particular jersey. The photo is from the April 24th, 1999 match against the Miami Fusion.
It was acquired via a former teammate of MoJo’s and came with a matching set of match worn boots. You can see this style of boots worn in all three photos above.
