Roger Espinoza returned to Sporting Kansas City in 2015 as a designated player after spending two seasons in England with Wigan Athletic.
Roger won the FA Cup in the 2012-2013 season with Wigan though the club was relegated from the Premier League.
After seeing his playing time dwindle the following season, he made his return to SKC and made an important contribution before missing out on the 2015 US Open Cup championship due to injury.
In 2016 he was fully healthy and made 34 appearances scoring a goal and adding 5 assists.
This primary Sporting blue “windowpane” shirt was worn by or issued to Roger Espinoza during the 2016 season.
Although the jersey does have some signs of use and Espinoza is known to occasionally wear long sleeves in matches, I’ve thus far been unable to find evidence of him wearing long sleeves in this style. For now I have it marked down as match issued.
The shirt was sourced directly from the club.
These “windowpane” jerseys are not one of the more beloved designs since the Sporting Kansas City rebrand. They do have some interesting details, however, such as the “Founding Team” patch on the inside of the jersey beneath the crest. This can be found on any of Major League Soccer’s nine founding club’s shirts that launched in 2015.
The windowpanes, which actually make the jersey look more like graphing paper, are inspired by the Kansas-Missouri state line.
