Chris Klein was a fourth overall selection in the 1998 MLS College Draft. He went on to be a star in KC.
Much like his successors Matt Besler and Graham Zusi, Klein helped lead the team to multiple trophies in his eight year tenure with the Wiz.
He’s a Sporting Legend and was an integral part in the club’s first MLS Cup championship, and was well on his way to helping the team earn it’s second championship in 2004 before an ACL injury ended his season early.
Through the first 19 games in the 2004 MLS season, Klein had 4 goals and 8 assists. He was headed towards a career year in production in both columns before the injury.
While the Wiz made it to the MLS Cup final without him, they were unable to overcome DC United and lost 3-1. What might have been?
Chris Klein still led the team in assists in 2004 despite his injury shortened season.
Named the team MVP in 2001, Klein flirted with double digits in goals + assists in almost every season he starred for the club.
Klein’s home match worn shirt features the two US Soccer Foundation patches that were common at that time, one on the left sleeve and one on the back below the numbers.
There isn’t a ton of visible use on the shirt. It came into the collection via one of the largest MLS match worn jersey collectors. It's one of two Chris Klein match worn shirts I own.
