Dany Rosero was acquired by Sporting Kansas City from Atlético Junior in Colombia shortly after the 2023 season kicked off.
The Colombian centerback was described by Peter Vermes as having “an excellent profile as a central defender”, mentioning his size, athleticism, and ball playing skills. Most importantly he was brought in based on his durability, something that has been a reoccurring issue with several important players with SKC in recent seasons.
Rosero has by and large been the best centerback on the roster since joining the club in March, and he’s been as durable as advertised.
The new Leagues Cup competition paused the Major League Soccer and Liga MX seasons in July for a head-to-head tournament between the two leagues.
Sporting Kansas City drew a group with FC Cincinnati and Chivas, with their first matchup seeing the club face the team that was at the top of the MLS table and leading the Supporter’s Shield race.
Dany Rosero scored his third goal for Sporting Kansas City on July 23rd, 2023 against FC Cincinnati in the club’s first match of the 2023 Leagues Cup.
The Colombian’s header put SKC ahead 2-0 in the 12th minute before a 30th minute red card to Alan Pulido saw the team begin to unravel.
They ultimately fell to Cincy 4-2 in penalties after the match ended in a 3-3 draw in regulation.
Rosero’s primary hoops 4.0 jersey shows a ton of wear with grass and mud stains on the front and back, as well as what looks like snot on the right sleeve above the Leagues Cup patch.
The Leagues Cup patches were added to all jerseys for the new tournament and worn on the right sleeve.
On the front of the shirt there are several grass/mud stains near and above the authentic patch at the left hem and another near the left ribs.
There are a few other faint stains on the front. The right sleeve features the 2023 Leagues Cup patch and grass stains and what looks like snot above it. On the left sleeve we have the MLS and Apple TV patches.
The back of Rosero’s jersey has quite a few grass/mud stains.
On the back left shoulder there is a large grass stain which is very visible in the videos of Rosero scoring his goal and the subsequent celebration.
Much of the rest of the mud/grass stains are found on the right side of the shirt from just below the shoulder all the way down to the right hem. There are also some stains in the center below the numbers.
Dany Rosero signed the jersey next to his number on the back.
SKC officially adopted hoops as their club identity when announcing the hoops 4.0 kit prior to the 2023 season.
The hoops 4.0 shirt is actually the inverse of the 2016 and 2017 secondary hoops kit that remains one of my favorites from the rebrand era. They feature “PAINT THE WALL” on the inside neck and the SKC three diamonds on the back of the neck.
