John Diffley was traded to the Kansas City Wizards from the Tampa Bay Mutiny prior to the 1997 season of Major League Soccer.
Diffley made just 19 appearances in his career in MLS, with six of those coming with the Wiz in 1997.
He featured as a sub in five of those matches, but went the full 90 minutes in the club’s opening game on March 28th, 1997, against the San Jose Clash.
Diffley was released by the Wizards and became a full-time coach in the sport, while also pitching in as a player coach at a few stops.
These rainbow sleeved third shirts were introduced during the 1997 season and worn for that season only.
The fabric on the shirt is different from other early Wizards shirt and has a bit of a sheen to it under certain light.
That unique fabric shows embossed Wizards logos up and down the shirt which can be seen up close.
These shirts featured sewn tackle-twill kits much like other early Wiz jerseys.
Diffley’s shirt shows some age and some wear, with major pilling at the bottom front hem and staining on the left sleeve.
