Gerso Fernandes was one of the most exciting players and personalities to play for Sporting Kansas City since the 2011 rebrand.
The Bissau-Guinean winger bombed up and down both wings using his blazing speed to try and create and finish chances for SKC. When those chances came to fruition, he pulled out his beloved swing celebration.
Gerso originally joined Sporting Kansas City as a designated player from Belenenses in 2017 before having the rest of his contract bought down to accommodate other designated player signings in 2018.
2019 was a rough year for the club, but it was Gerso’s most productive season statistically in North America.
He scored 7 goals and 8 assists in all competitions and produced a goal in each competition. The winger had 2 goals and 6 assists in MLS, four goals and 2 assists in CONCACAF Champions League play, and another goal in the US Open Cup.
This shirt was worn by Gerso Fernandes in an absolute drubbing on October 6th, 2019.
Sporting Kansas City was stomped 6-0 by FC Dallas late in the 2019 season.
Gerso subbed on for Dániel Sallói in the 52nd minute but SKC were unable to get anything together in the match.
His shirt has some light signs of wear but is otherwise clean. It is signed by Gerso between the back numbers.
These kits were introduced in 2019 and featured the gray “tire tread” or “roadkill” design on the front and were one of, if not the least popular designs since the SKC rebrand. The jerseys also had year dated jock tags near the right hem and a diagonal design above the left hem.
2019 saw them worn with an MLS patch on each sleeve, though that would change for the 2020 version.
