Tony Meola is a Sporting Legend due to his heroics with the Kansas City Wizards. He is also one of the greatest players to ever take the pitch in Major League Soccer.
Meola's accolades are incredible.
He won the 2000 MLS Cup and MLS Cup MVP with the Wizards, as well as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and MLS MVP in the same season. He holds the league's single season shutout record with 16, and was named as the goalkeeper on the MLS All-Time Best XI.
He also earned 100 caps with the United States Men’s National Team and backstopped the team in the 1994 World Cup.
Meola started in 21 matches for the Wiz in 2004. He produced 7 clean sheets, and the club advanced to the MLS Cup final. Meola was injured during the season, however, and did not get to play in the final. Meola did play in the 2004 US Open Cup final and helped Kansas City win its first Open Cup title.
This shirt was either worn or issued to Tony Meola during that 2004 season and came from his own personal collection.
Based on some marks/scuffs and other wear, it definitely appears to have been worn at some point by Meola.
