There aren’t enough words to aptly describe what Graham Zusi means to Sporting Kansas City, and therefore what this 2013 primary match worn shirt means to me.
Zusi holds the club record in appearances and minutes and is second all-time in assists with 89. He’s ninth all-time in goals scored with 35.
He’s been an MLS All-Star seven different times, including four times in a row from 2012-2015. He was named to the MLS Best XI in 2012 and 2013. Oh, and he’s been a vital piece of one MLS Cup (2013) and three US Open Cups (2012, 2015, 2017) while moving around the field to stay relevant in Peter Vermes’ lineup.
In short, he’s Mr. Sporting Kansas City.
This shirt was worn on October 5th, 2013 against the Columbus Crew. Zusi assisted on the game-winning goal scored by Ike Opara.
Graham Zusi’s primary match worn shirt features the pink Breast Cancer Awareness patch on the right breast. It’s placement is interesting since it is beside the adidas logo, not above it as you would expect.
From the photos I can find, the patch only had the “normal” placement for Jimmy Nielsen of the starting 11.
Zusi’s shirt appears to have been unwashed and has the single silver star above the crest and some light wear throughout, along with the hint of some staining on the right shoulder where there was a grass stain in some photos.
It is signed by Graham Zusi on the back next to the number, and comes with an MLS LOA. There is an MLS authentication hologram inside the neck.
