Matt Besler was a rock on the backline for Sporting Kansas City for a decade plus.
The Kansas City native captained his hometown team to four trophies (US Open Cup in 2012, 2015, 2017 and MLS Cup in 2013) and was a regular for the USMNT for several years.
Besler was the MLS Defender of the Year and Breakout Player of the Year in 2012, and was named to the MLS Best XI in 2012 and 2013.
His impact in the community and on the pitch were immense. Alongside Graham Zusi and Roger Espinoza, Besler ushered in a new era of success for Kansas City soccer.
Matt Besler’s secondary match worn shirt features the MLS Works patch for cancer awareness. These were replaced in 2017 by the current “Kick Childhood Cancer” patches.
His jersey has some light signs of wear. It is signed next to the back number.
He wore this shirt on September 18th, 2016 against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The match ended in a 2-2 draw and Besler played the full 90 minutes.
