Gianluca Busio was signed as the second youngest player in the history of Major League Soccer.
At age 15, he was just one year older than Freddy Adu and Sporting Kansas City was determined to make sure that he had a better support system than the former American prodigy.
He earned a shirt on match day for the first time in 2018, and became a regular in 2019 at age 17. In 2021, he came into his own and earned a move to Serie A and Venezia FC.
Busio's departure from SKC certainly hurt their MLS Cup title chances in 2021. The midfield was never quite as settled without him, and while he's moving on to bigger and better things, the club has to be thinking "what if?" regarding if he'd remained for the duration of the season.
Busio's career has continued its promise, however, getting regular minutes at Venezia and multiple callups with the USMNT.
Busio’s primary match worn shirt shows modest signs of wear.
The front is emblazoned with the club’s badge and two silver stars, and showcases the ill-received “treadmark” design across the chest.
His shirt is unsigned, but was purchased directly from SKC by me as match worn at their 2020 Black Friday equipment/kitman sale.
