Jimmy Nielsen signed with Sporting Kansas City prior to the 2010 season
The Danish goalkeeper backstopped SKC to the 2012 US Open Cup title and the 2013 MLS Cup title in his four years with the club
Nielsen was named captain prior to the 2013 MLS season
He was named to the MLS Best XI in 2012
The “White Puma” was also named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2012
Jimmy Nielsen was inducted into the Sporting Legends at Children’s Mercy Park in 2021
This shirt was worn on April 27th, 2013 against the Portland Timbers
SKC lost that match 3-2 despite a first half brace from Chance Myers
The match was the debut of Sporting Kansas City’s most beloved kit — the black argyle third kit
Nielsen also wore his own unique argyle kit which featured the club’s Sporting blue as a primary color
The argyle goalkeeper kits are incredibly rare as they were only worn a handful of times by SKC’s goalkeepers
It is signed by Nielsen on the front just below the collar
This kit was originally a part of a framed uniform set of Jimmy Nielsen’s that was auctioned by Sporting Kansas City for charity
The framed piece came with Nielsen’s game worn jersey, shorts, and captain’s armband
It also featured a pair of Jimmy’s gloves and a plaque noting the date of the game, the opponent, and that it was the debut game of the argyle kits
The entire frame was acquired by BHC from it’s original ownerbut it was heavily damaged in transit; thankfully all of the items were able to be removed and, bar some pinholes, are in excellent condition thanks to the display utilizing 99% UV protection glass
