Benny Feilhaber pulled the strings in the Sporting Kansas City attack during the club’s most successful period.
He began to come into his own as the club won MLS Cup in 2013 and was the midfield maestro for two US Open Cups (2015, 2017). He also found himself a finalist for league MVP in 2015.
Benny’s contributions to SKC will likely cement his status as a future Sporting Legend…and he’s not done yet.
Feilhaber currently serves as the head coach of Sporting Kansas City II.
This shirt was worn by Benny Feilhaber on August 10th, 2013 against the New England Revolution.
Sporting Kansas City won the match 3-0 and Benny scored a beautiful curling free kick goal in the 91st minute against his old club. At the final whistle he pulled his shirt off and threw it into the stands where it was collected by it’s original owner.
He had Feilhaber sign it for him at a team event a few weeks later and now it is in my possession.
Feilhaber’s shirt is a very special addition to the collection.
These navy/indigo secondary shirts only had the Ivy Funds sponsorship patch during the 2013 MLS Cup winning season. They were worn in 2011 and 2012 as well, but they had no sponsor on the front. I have only ever seen three of this style of kit with the sponsor from 2013 that were match worn making it quite a rare shirt.
Benny’s jersey has a few signs of wear including a bobble or two and is signed on the back.
According to the original owner it was obviously acquired unwashed, but in the ensuing ten years it has lost any smell it might have had and since it is so dark it’s harder to see visible stains.
