Michael Harrington was a fixture on the Kansas City Wizards and Sporting Kansas City backline for five seasons and part of a sixth.
After being selected 3rd overall in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, he saw the team usher in a new era with a new stadium and branding. He wore this secondary kit during a match in the 2011 season.
Harrington started off his MLS career with Kansas City with a flourish.
He scored just three minutes into his first MLS game, and after making 27 starts was named the team’s Rookie of the Year for the 2007 season.
Michael Harrington followed that up with three more seasons where he appeared in at least 27 matches.
The 2011 season saw the Kansas City Wizards transform into the Sporting Kansas City we know today.
The club’s familiar royal blue kits were traded in for sky blue and navy, and a new stadium — then LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, now Children’s Mercy Park — began operation in 2011 which was a huge stabilizer for the club.
Harrington crossed the 10,000 minutes played plateau for the club in the inaugural game at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
This 2011 long-sleeved secondary match worn jersey was in the possession of Harrington’s agent and was signed by Harrington and passed on by the agent in a memorabilia deal.
For my money, these are one of the more overlooked secondary kits the team has worn in the SKC era. The combination of the first navy kit, plus the embossed styling on the front really pops. The navy kits were the better of the two initial kit offerings from the rebrand.
