Tim Melia has been a constant between the sticks with Sporting Kansas City since 2015.
He’s set club records and earned league-wide recognition for his play for Peter Vermes’ side.
Melia entered the 2022 season hoping to build off a 2021 campaign that saw the club reach the playoffs for a second straight season. It wasn’t meant to be, however, as injuries wrecked the season before it ever got started and saw the club narrowly miss out on the playoffs after a late push.
Tim Melia wore this shirt in SKC’s home opener on March 5th, 2022 against the Houston Dynamo.
Timmy kept the clean sheet and Kansas City won 1-0 thanks to a second half goal by Rémi Walter.
This jersey was worn during the first half of the match and is photomatched to a photo of Melia clearing the ball during that half of play. The designs on the sleeve and near the adidas logo match up perfectly as each Primeblue goalkeeping kit had a unique design and the patterns on each were in different places.
Melia’s shirt is remarkable because it is actually one of the 2021 goalkeeper kits that was recycled for the first two matches of 2022 because the club did not have it’s 2022 goalkeeping kits on hand and ready to go. The 2021 kits featured a sponsor patch on each sleeve, but here there is a white and black MLS shield on each sleeve.
Tim Melia wore the pink 2021 goalkeeping kit in the first game of the season at Atlanta United, and then this green 2021 kit in the home opener the next week.
It was an interesting find and came directly from the club via the kitman sale for Black Friday.
