Johnny Russell arrived in Kansas City prior to the 2018 season from Derby County.
The winger has been the club’s talisman ever since, eventually assuming the captaincy full-time in the 2021 season.
His first season saw him appear in 30 matches, scoring 10 goals and adding 10 assists in league play.
He’s gone on to push his way to third all-time in goals scored at the club with 53, and recently signed a contract that could keep him in Sporting blue until through the 2024 season.
Johnny Russell’s primary match worn shirt features the unique “Sporting Salutes” military inspired nameset that the team wore to honor service members on August 25th, 2018.
Sporting Kansas City won the match and Russell assisted on both goals in the 2-0 victory.
Russell’s shirt has some light signs of wear, but is otherwise in fairly pristine condition. The jersey features the two silver stars above the club badge. These shirts also feature a handwritten “No other club” on the right sleeve which instantly catapults this kit to one of my favorites that the team has worn for a primary shirt in either era.
The back of JFR’s shirt has the aforementioned “Sporting Salutes” nameset which pops pretty well on these kits. It is signed by Johnny Russell next to the back numbers.
